DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

Due to a review of our Primary Interstate System Records, Interstate 235 in Polk County should be officially included into the Primary Interstate System.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the description of Interstate 235 in Polk County as referred in the attached detailed description be included in the Primary Interstate System effective upon the adoption of this resolution.

Locate Interstate 235 and its extensions in Polk County as follows:

West Des Moines:

Beginning at an unnamed street near the S ¼ Corner of the NE ¼ Section 6‑T78N-R25W (west junction Interstate 35 and Interstate 80); thence easterly substantially along the center section line through Sections 6, 5, 4, and 3‑T78N‑R25W to a point on an unnamed street at the east corporation line (west corporation line of the City of Windsor Heights) near the S ¼ Corner of the NE ¼ Section 3‑T78N‑R25W.

Windsor Heights:

Beginning at unnamed street at the west corporation line (east corporation line of the City of West Des Moines) at a point near the S ¼ Corner NE ¼ Section 3‑T78N‑R25W; thence easterly through Sections 3 and 2 to the east corporation line (west corporation line of the City of Des Moines) connecting with an unnamed street at a point near the center of Section 2‑T78N‑R25W.

Des Moines:

Beginning at the west corporation line (east corporation line of the City of Windsor Heights) connecting with an unnamed street at a point near the center Section 2‑T78N‑R25W; thence following the center section line easterly through Sections 2 and 1‑T78N‑R25W; thence easterly, northeasterly and easterly through Sections 6, 5, 4 and 3‑T78N‑R24W to a point substantially near the center of Section 3‑T78N‑R24W; thence northeasterly through Sections 3 and 2-T78N-R24W, continuing northeasterly through Sections 36 and 31‑T79N‑R23W to a point near the center of the SW ¼ Section 31‑T79N‑R23W; thence northerly and northeasterly through Sections 31, 30 and 19‑T79N‑R23W to an unnamed street at the north corporation line near the S ¼ Corner of the NW ¼ Section 19‑T79N‑R23W.

Due to a review of the Interstate Primary System, Interstate 235 in Polk County, the description should be officially included into the Primary Interstate Highway System.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

Locate Interstate 235 in Polk County as follows:

Beginning at the north corporation line of Des Moines at an unnamed street near the S ¼ Corner of the NW ¼ Section 19‑T79N‑R23W; thence in a northwesterly direction through Sections 19 and 18‑T79N‑R23W to a point in the NW ¼ of Section 18‑T79N‑R23W connecting with Interstate 80.

West Des Moines:

Beginning at an unnamed street near the S ¼ Corner of the NE ¼ Section 6-T78N-R25W; thence easterly substantially along the center section line through Sections 6, 5, 4, and 3‑T78N‑R25W to a point on an unnamed street at the east corporation line near the S ¼ Corner of the NE ¼ Section 3‑T78N‑R25W at an unnamed street.

Windsor Heights:

Beginning at unnamed street at the west corporation line near the S ¼ Corner of the NE ¼ Section 3‑T78N‑R25W; thence easterly through Sections 3 and 2 to a point substantially near the center Section 2‑T78N‑R25W, east corporation line at an unnamed street.

Des Moines:

Beginning at an unnamed street at the west corporate line of Des Moines near the center Section 2‑T78N‑R25W; thence following the center section line easterly through Sections 2 and 1‑T78N‑R25W; thence easterly, northeasterly and easterly through Sections 6, 5, 4 and 3‑T78N‑R24W to a point substantially the center of Section 3‑T78N‑R24W; thence northeasterly through Sections 3 and 2‑T78N‑R24W, continuing northeasterly through Sections 36 and 31‑T79N‑R23W to a point near the center of the SW ¼ Section 31‑T79N‑R23W; thence northerly and northeasterly through Sections 31, 30, and 19‑T79N‑R23W to an unnamed street at the north corporation line near the S ¼ Corner of the NW ¼ Section 19‑T79N‑R23W.

NOW, THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the Iowa Department of Transportation approve the location of Interstate 235 in Polk County, Iowa.
